Crane superstructures from MPP Modus: final report on the manufacturing and sales of Palfinger Sany cranes for 2019
Crane superstructures from MPP Modus: final report on the manufacturing and sales of Palfinger Sany cranes for 2019

The production and sale of crane superstructures in Ukraine, carried out by MPP “Modus,” is a relatively young direction. Since 2018, the company has been engaged in large-assembly assembly, chassis mounting, and sales of Austrian-Chinese Palfinger Sany installations. This start has been quite successful.

So, which Austrian-Chinese crane superstructures and on which truck chassis have been in demand among buyers? And equally important, which sectors in Ukraine need such cranes?

Already in March of last year, several self-propelled Palfinger Sany SRC series cranes, designed to handle loads up to 35 tons, were shipped.

These self-propelled cranes were purchased for construction in Vinnytsia region, as well as for enterprises in the oil production, maritime, and river sectors. It is worth noting that in less than six months, a 35-ton Palfinger Sany SRC 350 C crane helped build two large-scale buildings in Vinnytsia region!

In mid-2019, demand for Palfinger Sany cranes shifted slightly, and orders began arriving for the supply of truck-mounted cranes on special chassis — the Palfinger Sany STC series. Clients were interested in powerful crane models on special chassis with lifting capacities of 25 and 50 tons.

Such crane equipment is in high demand among companies operating in the oil production and energy sectors.

Finally, the second half of 2019 was fully occupied with the installation of crane superstructures on road truck chassis. At the Modus manufacturing facility in Ukraine, Palfinger Sany SPC truck cranes were assembled with lifting capacities of 32, 40, and 50 tons. The most popular base chassis was the Belarusian MAZ.

The strong demand for MAZ chassis is driven by their optimal technical specifications combined with a price point that remains attractive to Ukrainian customers.

For these projects, MAZ-Ukraine Trading House LLC supplied the following truck chassis models:

Palfinger Sany SPC cranes, jointly developed by Austrian and Chinese manufacturers and mounted on MAZ chassis, were purchased by companies in the energy, maritime, river transport, and defense sectors of Ukraine.

Another valuable and mutually beneficial experience was gained through projects implemented in cooperation with MAN Truck & Bus Ukraine LLC and Volvo Ukraine LLC.

A Palfinger Sany SPC320 crane superstructure with a lifting capacity of 32 tons was installed on a three-axle MAN TGM 26.320 6×4 BB chassis. In addition, a 40-ton Palfinger Sany SPC400 truck crane was successfully assembled on a VOLVO FMX 8×6 D13 EURO 5 chassis.

This powerful specialized equipment mounted on Western European commercial vehicle platforms is intended for use in the oil and gas industry, including oil extraction operations.

This year, Modus plans to expand its production capacity to accelerate CKD assembly operations, installation of Palfinger Sany SPC superstructures on truck chassis, and strengthen sales of completed Palfinger Sany cranes in Ukraine, including SRC rough-terrain cranes and STC truck-mounted cranes.

The company aims to increase market demand for heavy-duty truck cranes with lifting capacities exceeding 50 tons.
